The Doerenkamp-Zbinden Foundation has focused its activities towards establishement and support of endowed university chairs. Up to know, the Foundation has founded 5 university chairs world wide in order to promote research and teaching in biomedicine according to the3R principle ("Refinement", "Replacement" and "Reduction" of animal experiments). By this time the chairs have realized a number of projects with a strong scientific and educational impact in the field of alternatives to animal testing and use in the life sciences.

The univeristy chairs are situated at the following universities:

• The Doerenkamp-Zbinden Chair of in-vitro Toxicology and Biomedicine at the University of Konstanz (Germany)

• The Doerenkamp-Zbinden Endowed Chair in Evidence-based Toxicology at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore (USA)
  

• The endowed Doerenkamp-Zbinden chair “Alternatives to animal testing in toxicological risk assessment” at the University of Utrecht (the Netherlands)

• The Doerenkamp-Naef-Zbinden Chair for Alternative Methods at the University of Geneva (Switzerland)

• The Mahatma Gandhi-Doerenkamp Centre (MGDC) for Alternatives to Use of Animals in Life Science Education at Bharathidasan University in Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu (India)
